The history of the Dimmer family is rooted in the hotel trade. In 1871 they were landlords of an inn apart from being the owners of a joiner’s workshop and a hardware retail buisiness. During the time of the railway line to Echternach the female members of the family were running the inn, while Peter Dimmer primarily looked after the hardware business.
Then the Dimmer-Mergen line of the family expanded the business with the purchase of land which they subsequently cultivated Hospitality as well as a traditionnal cuisine, popular well beyond the border for its good plain cooking, naturally led to the development into a regular restaurant; and when the first tourists came to Luxemboug in the early postwar years, the café and the restaurant also became a hotel providing accommodation to sports-fishermen, among others.
The rapid development of tourism in the 70s necessitated additional hotelrooms, which entailed the hotel’s constant growth in importance under the management of Hedy and Lucien Dimmer-Burelbach. Farming became more of a hobby and was even partially abandoned. In 1987 the tradition has been continued and in 1990 the hotel witnessed expansion through the acquisition of the adjoining railway station, which was incorporated into the hotel complex after thorough restoration, now providing additionnal premium quality rooms and comfort for our hotel guests.
Since March 2001 we have been entirely renovated and pride ourselves on being your choice address in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
Presently the hotel is jointly run by the brothers François and Jean-Paul Dimmer who are proud of being a member of the hotel association Logis du Grand Duché de Luxembourg.
We never falter from our motto ‘ committed to tradition ‘
